No. 10 DBU Secures Series Win Over Sam Houston

THE RUNDOWN
No. 10 DBU clinched their CUSA opening series over Sam Houston with a 6-2 win over the Bearkats on Saturday afternoon at Don Sanders Stadium. Four home runs fueled the Patriots' offense, while DBU pitching limited Sam Houston to just two hits.

The Bearkats struck first in the second game of the series, taking a 1-0 lead in the first on a Hunter Autrey RBI single to right field.

Sam Houston would add another run in the second, taking advantage of a pair of walks and scoring their second run of the ballgame on a free pass with the bases loaded.

Despite giving up seven walks on the day, Jaron DeBerry battled, regained control, and shut down the Bearkats for the remainder of his appearance. In 5.2 innings, DeBerry allowed two earned runs on two hits while recording a career-high eight strikeouts.

Chayton Krauss sparked the offense in the third with a game-changing three-run homer to give DBU their first lead of the contest.

The following inning, Michael Dattalo stepped up and crushed his first home run as a Patriot over the left field wall to extend the lead to 4-2. Later in the same inning, Nathan Humphreys joined the party with a solo homer of his own to continue to put pressure on Sam Houston.

After a couple of scoreless innings, Joey Nerat added an insurance run in the seventh on a blast to right field, putting the Patriots up 6-2 on the road.

Down the stretch, DBU turned to Tyler Schott to secure the series victory. In 3.1 innings of action, Schott was terrific, not allowing a single walk or hit and registering three strikeouts to give the Patriots the victory in Huntsville.
