No. 7 Patriots Earn 20th Win of Season in 5-3 Win Over UTA

THE RUNDOWN
No. 7 DBU survived a late-game rally from UT Arlington in a 5-3 victory at Clay Gould Ballpark on Tuesday night. The Patriots' three-run sixth inning proved to be the difference in their 20th win of the season.

Jerrod Jenkins started on the mound Tuesday night and pitched a season-high 6.0 innings for DBU. In his six innings of work, Jenkins allowed two hits, one earned run and registered three strikeouts.

The game cruised through the first tour innings until Michael Dattalo launched a solo shot over the left field wall in the fifth to give the Patriots a 1-0 lead.

UTA made sure the lead was short-lived, evening the score in the bottom of the inning with a sacrifice fly.

In the sixth, Ethan Mann gave DBU the lead back on an RBI double to score Miguel Santos, who reached on a lead-off single. Two batters later, Chayton Krauss reached on a fielder's choice and Mann came home to score when the throw from the Mavericks' third baseman to cut the runner down at home was off the mark. To finish the inning, Dattalo laced a single up the middle to bring home Krauss and give the Patriots a 4-1 advantage.

A couple of innings later, pinch-hitter Alex Pendergast grounded out to the right side but was able to score Krauss to extend the lead to four.

Connor Benge relieved Jenkins after the sixth, pitching 2.0 innings, allowing one hit, two earned runs, and recording a pair of strikeouts.

The Mavericks threatened to come back in the bottom of the ninth after a single up the middle with the bases loaded narrowed the deficit to 5-3.

Eliminating any chance for a rally was Conner Mackay, who pitched the final inning and closed the door on the Mavericks when he struck out Tyce Armstrong with the tying run at first base.
