No. 11 DBU suffered a 7-5 loss to Air Force on a walk-off home run by the Falcons' Jay Thomason in the bottom of the ninth on Saturday at Edle Field. The loss evens the series between DBU and Air Force and sets up a deciding game three on Sunday.
Air Force's Thomason started the scoring with the first of his two home runs on the day when he smashed a solo homer to right field in the bottom of the first.
The Patriots answered with a two-run single from
Ethan Mann to take the lead 2-1 in the second inning. A solo shot from the Falcons' Walker Zapp evened the game at two apiece and a sacrifice fly plated the go-ahead run for Air Force in the third.
The Patriots would take the lead back once again as
Alex Pendergast bounced into a fielder's choice to tie the game in the fourth, followed by RBI hits from
Luke Heefner and
Miguel Santos in the fiftth to put DBU back up 5-3.
Air Force would get back within one in the seventh when Aaron Reyes ripped an RBI double to right field to make it 5-4. With the score the same in the bottom of the ninth, Connor Mackay came on and retired two batters before Jay Thomason hit a three run walk-off home run to give the Falcons a 7-5 win.
