No. 19 DBU Suffers 5-3 Loss in Game One to Louisiana Tech

THE RUNDOWN
No. 19 DBU Baseball dropped a 5-3 contest to open their series against Louisiana Tech on Friday night at Horner Ballpark. Despite a 15-strikeout performance from Patriot ace Ryan Johnson, the Patriot offense could not overcome a two-run deficit in the late innings.

The Bulldogs opened the scoring in the first inning as they tackled on a run via a passed ball. DBU would instantly get that run back when Chayton Krauss ripped a solo home run to right field to tie the game in the first. Tom Poole came through with an RBI triple in the second inning to give the Patriots a 2-1 lead.

In the third, Louisiana Tech scored on a sacrifice fly and then, in the sixth, capitalized on a Patriot error to take a 3-2 lead. Tom Poole collected his second RBI of the game when he drew a bases-loaded walk to tie things up at three in the sixth.

The tie between DBU and Louisiana Tech would be short-lived as the Bulldogs' two-way star, Ethan Bates, smashed a two-run homer that would be the difference as Tech grabbed a 5-3 advantage.

The Patriots threatened in their half of the ninth when Miguel Santos led off the inning with a double, but Bates retired the next three batters to record his national-leading 11th save of the season.
