THE RUNDOWN
No. 19 DBU fell 6-1 to Louisiana Tech in game two of Sunday's doubleheader at Horner Ballpark. The loss handed Louisiana Tech the series as the Patriots dropped their second consecutive Conference USA series.
With the game scoreless through the first two innings, Louisiana Tech's Will Safford launched a solo shot to open the scoring in the third. Three batters later, the Bulldogs scored another on a sacrifice fly from Dalton Davis and added a third run on a double from Cole McConnell to jump out to a 3-0 lead.
In the fifth, McConnell added another run on an RBI single to make it 4-0. In that same inning, Michael Ballard ripped a two-run single to left to make the score 6-0 Bulldogs.
Louisiana Tech was led on the mound by a spectacular performance from junior right-hander Turner Swistak, who shut out DBU over 6.0 innings and struck out a career-high nine batters. Sam Broderson kept the Patriots off the board over the next two innings before handing the ball to Ethan Bates in the ninth.
Down to their final out, the Patriots'
Tom Poole came through with a single to drive in
Michael Dattalo and breakup the shutout before Ethan Bates induced a groundout to end the game.
