DBU Drops Midweek Contest to TCU in Fort Worth

THE RUNDOWN
DBU dropped a 5-2 decision to TCU on Tuesday night at Lupton Stadium in Fort Worth. A two-run homer from Grant Jay in the top of the sixth was all the offense the Patriots could muster as TCU clinched the season sweep over DBU.
 
The Horned Frogs jumped out to a 1-0 lead in their half of the first after a pair of singles were followed by a Kurtis Byrne RBI base hit to center field to score the game's first run. With a runners on first and third and just one out, DBU perfectly executed a double play off a pop-up to escape the inning.
 
 In the second, starter Nick Wilson would be relieved by Jerrod Jenkins. A two-out triple from the Horned Frogs' Sam Myers brought home two more runs for TCU, extending the lead to three.
 
TCU would add single runs in the fifth and sixth innings on RBI groundouts to hand the Patriots a five-run deficit. DBU finally got on the board an inning later when Grant Jay blasted a two-run shot over the left field wall to help close the gap.
 
The Patriots' committee of pitchers would limit the Horner Frogs' offense, but TCU slammed the door shut in the ninth with a strikeout of Alex Pendergast as the Patriots fell for the seventh time in their last 11 games. 
 
 THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
 - DBU went 1-10 with runners on base.
 - The Patriots were 0-6 with runners in scoring position.
 - DBU's two extra-base hits were a Grant Jay home run and an Ethan Mann double.

UP NEXT 
DBU travels to Miami to face FIU in a three-game Conference USA series this weekend. First pitch is scheduled for 5:35 p.m. at FIU Baseball Stadium.
