DBU's Offense Explodes in 19-5 Win Over SFA

THE RUNDOWN
DBU scored a season-high 19 runs in a 19-5 win over Stephen F. Austin on Tuesday night at Horner Ballpark. The Patriots finished the game with 16 hits, including six home runs, as DBU won on the 10-run rule in seven innings for the second consecutive game.

After the Lumberjacks took a 1-0 lead on an RBI groundout, DBU quickly seized a 5-1 advantage in their half of the first on a Tom Poole two-run homer, a Grant Jay RBI double, and a Luke Heefner blast over the wall in right-center.

The Patriots' offense would produce another five-spot in the second, starting with an RBI triple from Michael Dattalo, a pair of run-scoring doubles from Chayton Krauss and Miguel Santos, and a solo home run from Ethan Mann to close the inning.

DBU continued to pile on runs in the third, starting with Poole's RBI double and a Santos' sacrifice fly. Mann extended the lead to 14-1 after hitting his second two-run homer of the evening.

SFA cut into the lead when Tyree Carr drove in a run on a single up the middle in the fourth, but Alex Pendergast got the run right back with a solo shot over the left field wall to lead off the Patriots' half of the inning.

Charlie Atkinson made his second start of the season on the mound for the Patriots. In 2.1 innings, Atkinson gave up one earned run on one hit. Four other Patriots pitchers would see action on Tuesday, as Dillon Haines earned his first win of the season after giving up one run in 1.1 innings of relief.

In the sixth, Adam Berghult drove in his first run of the year on a sacrifice fly to center, putting the 16th run of the game on the scoreboard.  Luke Pettitte earned his first at-bat of the season, taking full advantage by drilling a single into left field. To finish off the huge-scoring night, Keaton Grady crushed his first home run as a Patriot, a three-run blast that gave DBU a season-high 19 runs.
