No. 7 DBU Shuts Out WKU in Series Finale

THE RUNDOWN
No. 7 DBU bounced back on Sunday with a 3-0 shutout victory over Western Kentucky at Nick Denes Field. Through nine innings, the Patriots' Luke Pettitte, Nick Wilson, and Conner Mackay only allowed three hits in the win.

Once again, Luke Pettitte made the Sunday start for DBU on the mound. The freshman from Houston was masterful against the Hilltoppers, pitching 5.0 innings, allowing just two hits and one walk, while striking out five.

In another low-scoring affair between two teams competing to move up in the Conference USA standings, neither team could score through the first three innings.

Going into the fourth, the Patriots were still without a hit until Miguel Santos provided a much-needed spark. As the leadoff batter, Santos singled to center field to breathe life into the offense.

Next up, Ethan Mann followed with a single through the left side to move Santos into scoring position. With two runners on base, Chayton Krauss blasted a three-run homer over the left-center wall to give DBU a 3-0 lead over WKU.

After 5.0 shutout innings, Nick Wilson would relieve Pettitte on the mound. Wilson picked up right where Pettitte left off, pitching 3.0 innings, allowing just one hit and recording a pair of strikeouts.

Wilson helped carry the 3-0 lead into the bottom of the ninth, where closer Conner Mackay took over. To finish off WKU, Mackay induced a groundout, flyout, and another groundout, to earn DBU a 3-0 victory.
