No. 24 DBU Holds Off New Mexico State in Day One of CUSA Tournament

THE RUNDOWN
No 24. DBU used a four-run fourth inning and strong relief pitching to down New Mexico State 5-3 on Wednesday at J.C. Love Field in Ruston, Louisiana. With the victory, DBU will face FIU in the winner's bracket of the Conference USA Baseball Tournament.

New Mexico State got the scoring started in the third inning when an RBI single off the knob of Mitch Namie's bat just stayed fair inside the third base line to put the Aggies up 1-0. That lead would be short-lived as Chayton Krauss lifted a sacrifice fly to left field to tie the game at one apiece through three innings.

In the fourth, DBU plated four runs to jump out to a 5-1 lead. Four different Patriots knocked in runs as Ethan Mann and Grant Jay each drove in a run on a pair of doubles, and Alex Pendergast and Michael Dattalo delivered RBI singles.

The Aggies got two runs back in the sixth on a sacrifice fly and an RBI single from Romeo Ballesteros. DBU's bullpen locked down the win as Tyler Schott, Connor Benge, and Conner Mackay combined to throw 3.1 scoreless innings to secure the win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
11 – Ryan Johnson earned his 11th win of the season to move into a tie with Jeff Gilmore (2004) for the second-most wins in a single season in DBU's Division I era.
21 - Ethan Mann hit his team-leading 21st double of the season.
59 – Chayton Krauss drove in his 59th run of the year to lead the team in that department.
