Poole's Walk-Off Blast in the Ninth Lifts DBU to Win Over UT Arlington

THE RUNDOWN
On Tuesday night at Horner Ballpark, a walk-off home run from Tom Poole in the bottom of the ninth lifted DBU to a 7-6 win over UT Arlington. After the Patriots let a four-run lead slip through their grasp in the final two innings, Poole delivered the knockout punch on the first pitch he saw from Mavericks' reliever Harrison Hammond.

DBU got the scoring started early in the first inning when Poole ripped an RBI single into right to give the Patriots a 1-0 lead. That lead would be short-lived as the Mavericks responded in the next half-inning with a solo homer from Caylon Dygert that tied things up at one apiece.

Poole continued his hot hitting in the third, driving a two-run shot over the right-center field wall to put the Patriots up 3-1.

UTA would get one back in the fourth with a sacrifice fly, but the Patriots would use a big offensive inning in their half of the fourth to expand their lead. An RBI single from Chayton Krauss, a bases-loaded walk by Miguel Santos, and a sacrifice fly from Ethan Mann led to a three-run inning for DBU.

The Mavericks got two back in the bottom of the eighth on a sac fly and a single from Tate Bethel. In the ninth, UTA pulled to within a run on Dygert's infield single, and Garrison Berkley came through with the game-tying RBI single to left.

Tied at six apiece, Poole wasted no time as the Patriots' junior right fielder blasted the first pitch into the Dallas sky and over the wall in right to hand DBU their third walk-off win of the season.
