No. 21 DBU Eliminates No. 15 Arizona in 7-0 Shutout Win

THE RUNDOWN
No. 21 DBU kept its postseason alive with a 7-0 victory over host No. 15 Arizona in the regional's first elimination game on Saturday at Hi Corbett Field in Tucson, Arizona. A shutout on the mound and an 11-hit day on offense, powered by a pair of Tom Poole home runs, sends DBU into an elimination game on Sunday against the loser of tonight's game between West Virginia and Grant Canyon.

The Patriots jumped on Wildcats' starter Cam Walty in the first when Miguel Santos laced a two-out RBI triple down the right-field line to put DBU up 1-0.

Building on the lead in the third, Chayton Krauss drilled a double to left center to bring home the second run. The following at-bat, Tom Poole crushed a two-run shot deep over the wall in right to give the Patriots a 4-0 advantage.

Two innings later, Krauss set the table with a leadoff single before Poole launched his second two-run homer of the game on an opposite-field shot to left, putting Arizona in a 6-0 hole.

On the mound, Jaron DeBerry set the tone early and produced one of the best performances of his career. In 6.0 innings of work, DeBerry gave up just three hits and issued four walks while registering six strikeouts.

Connor Benge and River Ridings were called on to keep the Wildcats off the scoreboard down the stretch. Benge would retire all three batters he faced, and Ridings struck out two batters and gave up just one hit before inducing a fielder's choice.

The Patriots would add an extra insurance run in the ninth as Luke Heefner laced a two-out double, and Michael Dattalo brought him home on a single into left field to make it 7-0.

Zach Todd was brought in to preserve DBU's shutout in the ninth. Todd allowed just one hit and secured the final three outs by inducing a pop-up and a pair of flyouts to close out the Patriots' second win over Arizona this season and eliminate the Wildcats from the Tucson Regional.
