The Lady Patriots took a small, yet mighty squad to the Southwestern Showdown, finishing first overall with 38 points.  The host team, Southwestern, claimed second with 60 points, followed by The Texas Running Club in third at 67 points. 
 

First across the finish line for DBU was freshman Avery Frank in third place with a time of 24:05.11.  Mae Delrot was next in fifth at 24:34.56, followed by Berkley Funderburg (ninth) and Lutgard Goethals (12th) with times of 25:02.94 and 25:17.29, respectively.  Barbi Ruiz closed out the scoring for the Lady Patriots, finishing in 16th at 25:48.32. 
 

The runners who competed at the Southwestern Showdown have concluded their 2025 cross country season. Winning as a team in their final race with a freshman at the helm provides confidence going into not only the indoor and outdoor track seasons but also the following cross country season. 

 

Though some of the Lady Patriots are beginning their preparation for the indoor track opener, DBU has at least two more cross country meets left.  Next week is the 2025 Lone Star Conference Cross Country Championships, hosted by DBU at AP Ranch in Fort Worth, TX, on Saturday, October 25.  The women will race at 9:00am.
