THE RUNDOWN
The DBU Men's Soccer team came up just short on Saturday night, falling 2-1 to Lubbock Christian at the LCU Soccer & Track Facility. A late strike from
Bryan Beck, his first career goal, provided the lone score for the Patriots, who now sit at 2-3-2 in Lone Star Conference play.
LCU opened the scoring in the 16th minute when Kade McKinzie converted from close range, giving the Chaps a 1-0 lead they would carry into halftime after outshooting DBU, 7-3.
The Chaps doubled their advantage in the 80th minute as Francisco Horta notched his team-leading fifth goal of the season. Just 41 seconds later, Beck answered for DBU, cutting the deficit in half and sparking a late surge from the Patriots.
In the closing minutes, DBU controlled possession and pushed for the equalizer, firing three shots in the final stretch.
Jared Perez nearly found the back of the net with a shot on goal in the 88th minute, but LCU keeper Connor Pettigrew turned it away to preserve the win.
