THE RUNDOWN
On Saturday afternoon at the Burg Center, the No. 5 DBU Men's Basketball team tied a program record with their 11th straight win in a 91-61 rout of Angelo State.
Ricky Lujan delivered another milestone moment, scoring 17 points to become just the second player in school history—alongside
Cameron Kahn—to reach the 2,000-point career mark. Freshman standout
Jackson McCabe also made his presence felt, recording his first career double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds in the dominant win over the Javelinas.
DBU wasted no time imposing their will, jumping out to an 8-0 lead before TAMUK's Nate Lacewell managed to get the Javelinas on the board with a dunk. That would be their last glimmer of momentum for a while, as the Patriots responded with a relentless 21-0 surge over the next five minutes, ballooning their lead to a staggering 29-2. The defensive intensity was suffocating—DBU held TAMUK under 10 points until just over seven minutes remained in the first half, stretching their lead to 42-9 before ultimately heading into the break with a commanding 56-23 advantage.
With the game in hand, the second half saw TAMUK slightly narrow the gap, outscoring the Patriots 38-35 over the final 20 minutes. However, DBU's early dominance had already sealed the deal, and the 30-point rout marked the team's largest margin of victory since their 109-45 dismantling of Mississippi College on November 23.
