Dallas Baptist University (DBU) has announced that, beginning with the 2025– 2026 academic year, the Men's and Women's Tennis programs will transition from NCAA Division II competition to club sport status.
The decision, made after a thorough evaluation of program sustainability, will allow the University to strategically focus limited resources on its remaining varsity and club sports so that they continue to thrive in an increasingly complex and competitive collegiate athletics landscape.
"DBU remains committed to developing champions for Christ in every arena of life," said
Matt Duce, Director of Athletics. "While this decision was not easy, it reflects a spirit of stewardship and long-term planning. We are deeply thankful for the dedication of Coach
Wade Morgan, our tennis student-athletes, and alumni who have proudly represented DBU on and off the court."
Student-athletes currently enrolled in the tennis programs will be supported through this transition. DBU will continue to offer competitive opportunities through its growing club tennis program and will assist those who explore continuing their NCAA tennis careers elsewhere.
DBU Athletics is grateful for the history and impact of its tennis programs and the many student-athletes, coaches, and supporters who have shaped them over the years. As the programs conclude their time as NCAA sports, DBU remains committed to honoring their legacy and supporting our student-athletes through this transition.
