THE RUNDOWN
The DBU Patriots (32-13, 15-5 CUSA) dismantled the Florida International Panthers (26-21, 9-10 CUSA) on Saturday afternoon at Horner Ballpark. Patriot starter Ryan Borberg tossed five scoreless innings and received his sixth win of the season.
Out of the gates, this game had DBU written all over it. Borberg needed just eight pitches to get through the top of the first, and in the bottom half, Chayton Krauss put the Pats on the board with a sac fly.
After another spotless inning from Borberg, the DBU offense rattled off five runs in the bottom of the second. With the bases loaded, Cody Grebeck laid down a perfect sac bunt before Keaton Grady followed with an RBI groundout. Joey Nerat would score on a wild pitch before Grant Jay set the table for a Nathan Humphreys two-run blast that capped the rally.
The Pats would add to their lead in the third as Joey Nerat pulled an RBI single into right field, which plated Michael Dattalo. This made it 7-0 after three.
Both offenses were held scoreless for the next four innings as the Patriots turned to Rian Schwede for the sixth. Schwede threw three scoreless innings and struck out three Panthers in the process.
In the bottom of the eighth, the Pats loaded the bases for Keaton Grady, and he drew a full-count walk, making it 8-0 heading to the ninth.
Athan Kroll was tasked with the ninth and showed off an electric curveball, striking out two in the final frame.
