Basketball's Ryan Glenney Promoted to Associate Head Coach

DBU Men's Basketball announced the promotion of Ryan Glenney to Associate Head Coach on Friday. Now entering his 10th season with the Patriots, Glenney has been a pivotal force behind the program's sustained success and national rise.

Since joining the DBU coaching staff in 2016, Glenney has helped guide the Patriots to seven NCAA Tournament appearances, including a historic 2024-25 season that saw DBU capture both the Lone Star Conference regular season and tournament championships, and advance to the NCAA Division II National Semifinals for the first time in school history.

"It is hard to overstate the impact that Coach Glenney has had on our program," said Head Coach Dr. Blake Flickner. "His hands are involved in everything. He serves as our recruiting coordinator, defensive coordinator, and camp coordinator. He's played a key role in scheduling, scouting, and promotions. Ryan brings tremendous knowledge, tireless work ethic, and a deep heart for discipleship. He loves our players so well and leads with both strength and humility. Our program's success is directly tied to his influence and leadership. I'm proud to call him not just a colleague, but one of my closest friends. This recognition is richly deserved."

Serving as the program's recruiting coordinator, Glenney has been instrumental in identifying and developing elite talent. During his tenure, DBU has produced 27 All-Conference selections, highlighted by All-Americans Chandler Jacobs and Cameron Kahn. Under his leadership, the Patriots have also seen three players earn Conference Freshman of the Year honors, while three others were named Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Year, and three more earned LSC Sixth Man of the Year.

In recognition of his impact, Glenney was named the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Small College Assistant Coach of the Year in 2019.

"Ryan Glenney's promotion to Associate Head Coach is a testament to the leadership, stability, and standard of excellence that define DBU Basketball," DBU Director of Athletics Matt Duce remarked. "His relentless approach to recruiting and player development played a foundational role in our run to the Final Four last season and continues to shape the future of our basketball program. He has served faithfully alongside Coach Flickner, complementing his leadership with conviction and excellence. Ryan is the kind of coach whose fingerprints are on everything — the culture, the wins, the growth — and our program is stronger because of him."

Glenney began his coaching journey as a student assistant at Iowa State University, working under current Creighton Head Coach Greg McDermott. After graduating from Iowa State, he came to DBU as a Graduate Assistant, before taking on assistant coaching roles at North Platte Community College, Jacksonville College, and Western Texas College.
