The DBU Men's Cross Country Team opened the 2025 campaign at the Gerald Richey UTA Invitational, finishing fifth.  Texas A&M Corpus Christi took the individual title, but it was host team University of Texas Arlington with the team victory scoring 55 points.  The Islanders were just a point behind at 66, followed by Abilene Christian notching 59.

Senior Noah Joy made a statement with a 13th-place finish to lead the Patriots, crossing the finish line with a time of 15:18.3, followed by Jeb Williamson slotted in 21st, finishing the 5k in 15:30.4.  A DBU wave soon came through, starting with transfer Zach Martin in 36th with a time of 15:42.5.  Freshman Hunter Lemma slotted in 38th, running to a 15:48.1 in his collegiate debut.  Fellow newcomer Hudson Joseph was a few strides behind, completing the DBU scoring with a 40th-place finish, running his first collegiate race in 15:51.8David Salas continued the red sea, placing 41st in 15:52.4, followed by Isaac Pendley and CJ Hobbs in 42nd and 43rd, running 15:53.4 and 15:54.5, respectively.

It was a humid morning at the Harold Patterson Sports Complex in Arlington, a classic cross country environment for the beginning of the cross country season.  In a field of mostly Division I programs, the Patriots followed their plan perfectly, staying in the assigned groups and holding their paces.  With a long season ahead and multiple races to come, a 5k is a great way to get the jitters out and prime themselves for the 8ks and 10ks to come.

UP NEXT
The Patriots will be back on the course next week between two races.  One squad will attend the Mustang Derby, a 6k race hosted by Midwestern State, on Thursday, September 11th in Wichita Falls.  The other is heading to College Station, racing the Texas A&M Invitational.  The 8k race will be held at the Watts Cross Country Course on Saturday, September 13th.
