THE RUNDOWN
DBU (0-0-1) dropped its season opener to UT Tyler (1-0-0) in a 1-0 decision on Thursday night at Patriot Soccer Field.

DBU pushed the ball in the early stages, keeping the ball on the UT Tyler half of the field for the majority of the first half. DBU created two opportunities in the first 13 minutes, but UT Tyler fended off the attacks.

With just over 29 minutes left in the first half, UT Tyler had a free kick above the right corner of the penalty box, but they were unable to convert. Shortly after, the two teams exchanged charges into the box, but both goalkeepers, Sean Mattivi of DBU and Niclas Becker for UT Tyler, jumped on the encroaching attempts, leaving both teams without a shot on goal in the first half.

DBU made an immediate charge out of the halftime break, including a missed header from Jack Golden within the half's first minute that was saved by Becker for the game's first shot on goal. DBU continued to move the ball deep into UT Tyler territory, earning three corner kicks within the 51st and 55th minutes, but the home Patriots' attempts were to no avail.

With less than 12 minutes to go, a DBU corner kick turned into a sequence of headers from both sides, but UT Tyler ultimately kept the ball out of the net. Moments later, DBU broke away around midfield, and James Webb received a ball in the box. But the UT Tyler defense prevented him from converting.

In the 84th minute, Tyler Nyame worked his way on the left side of DBU's box and lifted a left-footed shot into the top half of the net for the match's lone goal and the loss for DBU.
