Crunch-Time Heroics Launch DBU Past Colorado School of Mines

THE RUNDOWN
DBU Men's Soccer (3-1-1) registered two goals in the last 10 minutes of its match with Colorado School of Mines to take down the Orediggers 2-1 on Saturday in Golden, Colorado. Caden Berg tied the game on a free kick in the 82nd minute before recording an assist on a goal by Jack Golden in the 86th to complete the come-from-behind victory.

The Patriots played with their typical pace and intensity to open the match. After Mines took the first corner kick in the second minute, DBU rattled off six corners on the Orediggers' half in under 12 minutes. The Patriots kept the ball in their attacking half for most of the first half but could not find the net. However, they limited Mines' opportunities in the process, limiting the Orediggers to just two shots in a scoreless first half.

DBU continued to push into the Mines' part of the field, but zeroes remained on the scoreboard until the 72nd minute, when the Orediggers broke through with a corner kick that rebounded off the Patriot defense into the Patriots' goal for a 1-0 lead for Mines.

With the clock winding down and a loss appearing to be imminent, DBU claimed a free kick with less than 10:00 to go. From the left sideline, roughly 40 yards away, Caden Berg launched the ball into the box and beyond the reach of the Oredigger goalkeeper, Kiernan DiBella, to level the score at 1-1 in the 82nd minute.

Less than four minutes later, the Patriots struck again. Granted a free kick in an almost identical spot to his goal, Caden Berg lifted a similar pass into the Oredigger box, but instead of finding the net immediately, he earned his first assist of the season, as Jack Golden knocked a header through the frame for DBU's second goal and the Patriots' third win of the year.

HEAD COACH BRAD BANKHEAD ON DBU'S RESILIENCE AND COMPOSURE
"Proud of our resilience again tonight! Giving up the goal against the run of play late in the game is often tough to overcome. We kept at it and created more opportunities, eventually finding some luck. At that point, I think we all knew we were going to win this game. Love the composure and mentality throughout!"
