THE RUNDOWN
The No. 4-ranked DBU Women's Soccer team remained perfect on the season, improving to 5-0 and opening Lone Star Conference play with back-to-back victories following a commanding 4-0 shutout of West Texas A&M at The Pitch in Canyon, Texas.
Riley Olsen scored twice to lead the Patriot attack, while DBU earned its fourth road victory of the season.
DBU wasted little time taking control, striking just 3:38 into the match.
Ashley Washburn found Olsen inside the box, and the sophomore forward finished with a one-touch, right-footed shot that slipped past Lady Buffs goalkeeper Sydney Nanz to give the Patriots an early 1-0 advantage.
The Patriots doubled their lead in the 27th minute when Washburn once again set up the goal. After receiving a cross from the left side,
McKenna Vela settled the ball inside the box and tucked her shot inside the far post for her first goal of the season.
Less than four minutes later, Vela returned the favor. The junior midfielder connected with Washburn, who drove through traffic before drilling a shot inside the left post to push the DBU advantage to 3-0.
DBU continued to control the match after halftime, outshooting West Texas A&M, 14-2, in the second half. With the Patriots still holding a three-goal cushion in the 86th minute, Olsen put the finishing touch on the victory, finding the back of the net for the second time to record the second brace of her career and cap the 4-0 shutout.
