THE RUNDOWN
DBU (2-1-1) took down Ouachita Baptist (2-1-1) in a physical, 3-0 affair on a hot Saturday afternoon in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. A pair of penalty kicks and a takeaway-turned-goal gave the Patriots a trio of tallies to complete a two-win week.
Â
James Webb attacked early for the Patriots, running down a free ball at the top of the OBU box and drawing a foul after colliding with goalkeeper Isaac Murie in the third minute.
Erik Oliveira, the Patriots' leading goal scorer in 2025, took the penalty kick and placed it in the bottom left corner as Murie dove to the other side for a 1-0 DBU lead.
Â
The next 22 minutes were played between the boxes, as neither defense relinquished a shot on goal. In the 24th minute, OBU's Andrew Castellanos took a free kick from a few yards outside the top of the box, but DBU's
Hugo Herrera dove to his left to deflect the Tigers' first shot on goal to the sideline.
Â
The Patriots controlled the ball for most of the next 15 minutes, but a yellow card on
Carson Schoenbeck set up OBU with an opportunity above the top left side of the penalty area. The free kick led to three consecutive corner kicks for the Tigers, but the DBU defense held, keeping the score at 1-0 at halftime.
Â
In the 20th minute of the second half, the Patriots pushed the ball into the OBU's box, where a yellow card on Landon Summers gave
Jared Perez the Patriots' second penalty kick of the game. Perez knocked the ball into the bottom right quadrant of the frame for his first goal of the season and a two-goal cushion for DBU.
Â
Moments later, with just under 20 minutes to go,
Jared Garcia intercepted a pass in the Tigers' third of the field and dribbled to 12 yards from the goal before firing a shot with a Tiger defender encroaching. His attempt zipped to the right of the OBU goalkeeper for the first goal of his career, extending the margin to 3-0.
Â
The Tigers pushed back in the closing minutes, as Jaan Meincke, assisted by Ryan Armijo, notched a goal on a corner kick. But DBU held on for the 3-1 victory, the Patriots' second of the week.

HEAD COACH BRAD BANKHEAD ON DBU'SÂ IMPROVEMENT IN THE SECOND HALF
"Another game we were able to grind out a victory. It wasn't our best performance, specifically in the first half. The guys were able to accept the challenge at halftime and came into the second half and got to work and good moment happened."
