The Dallas Baptist University Patriot Baseball team fell to 2-1 on the season after being defeated by the University of Arkansas by the score of 13-3 on Friday afternoon at Patriot Field. The Razorbacks are currently ranked 25th in the ESPN National College Baseball poll.
The Patriots struck first scoring an unearned run in the first inning, after Freshman Austin Krum singled and advanced to second on a throwing error. He moved to third on a groundout by Junior Cody Montgomery and Senior Ryan Olivo hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield to score Krum, giving the Patriots the early 1-0 lead.
Arkansas responded in the second inning with four runs on four hits, after Danny Hamblin doubled to start the inning and scored on a RBI groundout by Clay Goodwin. The Razorbacks added three more runs in the inning after a bases loaded walk to Clint Arnold and a two RBI single by Casey Rowlett, leaving the score 4-1.
DBU added a run in each the second and third innings on solo homeruns by Juniors Jeremy Goldschmeding and Cody Montgomery, leaving the score 4-3.
Arkansas padded their lead in the fifth inning with two homeruns from Jake Dugger, a two-run homerun and Blake Parker, with a grand slam, making the score 10-3.
The Razorbacks added two more runs in the eighth inning on a triple by Rowlett, who later scored on a passed ball, increasing their lead to 12-3. Arkansas pushed across one more run in the ninth, making the final score 13-3.
Charley Boyce (1-0) picked up the win for Arkansas and Sophomore Rodney Brantley (0-1) received the loss.
The Patriots resume action on Saturday afternoon when they take on the University of Arkansas in a rematch at 12:00 at Clay Gould Ballpark in Arlington, on the campus of UTA.
