DBU held the annual Patriot Athletic Banquet on Monday, May 2, 2011, in the Hillcrest Great Hall of the John G. Mahler Student Center at Dallas Baptist University. The Patriots recognized all 16 intercollegiate teams at the banquet.
The 2011 Patriot Awards are given to a male and a female athlete who excel on and off the field with hard work and dedication to their team, academics, and spiritual life. The awards are given by DBU President, Dr. Gary Cook. The two athletes who received this year's honors were Senior Michelle Grose (Cheerleading) and Senior Kurt Lindsey (Track/Cross Country).
The Male and Female Athletes of the Year were given to two individuals who have excelled on the playing field during their career at DBU and were presented by DBU Director of Athletics Ryan Erwin. The Male Athlete of the Year was awarded to Braxton Adamson (Basketball), and the Female Athlete of the Year was awarded to Senior Tabbitha Ashford (Track/ Cross Country).
The Patriots have several student-athletes who excelled in the classroom by maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. These students were recognized and bestowed the President's Academic Excellence Award. The recipients are listed below:
Basketball - Armstead Lewis, Jordan Adamson, Steven Marsh
Track and Field - Caleb Collins, Andrew Price, Kurt Lindsey, Julie Durrwatcher, Laura Schaffner, Megan Liss, Rachel Phillips, Ashley Spivey
Cheerleading - Tara Smith, Chloe Heidelberg, Brooke Jones, Corinne Jones, Mary Zandstra, Michelle Grose, Meredith Hanna, Lauren Wulff
Three awards are presented by each intercollegiate team. The awards consist of the MVP (Most Valuable Player), the Timothy Award (Hardest Worker), and the Spiritual Leader (Servant Leader). The student-athletes honored with each award are listed below:
