The Dallas Baptist University Patriot baseball team used a 18 hit attack and a solid pitching performance from Junior Jereme Wilson to defeated UT-San Antonio on Saturday afternoon by the score of 12-4. Wilson pitched six shutout innings, allowing only two hits for his first victory of the season. The Patriots swept the weekend series against the Roadrunners and improved to 6-2 on the season, while UTSA fell to 0-7.
Leading Dallas Baptist at the plate was Freshman Austin Krum, who finished the day 3-3 with three doubles and four runs scored. Senior Ryan Olivo went 4-5 with two RBI and Junior Cody Montgomery added three RBI.
DBU got on the board first, scoring two runs in the third inning. Krum was hit by a pitch to start the inning and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Junior Brad Boles. Junior Jeremy Goldschmeding followed with a RBI double and later scored on a RBI single by Olivo, giving the Patriots the 2-0 lead.
Krum helped the Patriots add another run in the fifth inning, after doubling to start the inning and scoring on Montgomery’s RBI single, increasing their lead to 3-0.
DBU scored another one run in both the sixth and seventh innings. Olivo doubled to lead off the sixth and Junior Drew Holder singled, setting up a double steal, scoring Olivo from third. In the seventh, Krum lead off the inning with a walk and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Boles. Goldschmeding followed with a RBI single to right field, leaving the score 5-0.
The Patriots added seven runs in the eighth inning. Holder singled to start the inning and advanced to third on a single by Sophomore Jimmy Thoma. Holder scored on a wild pitch by UTSA pitcher Sean Danielson and Junior Matt Tucker singled, setting up a RBI double by Krum. Montgomery followed with a two RBI single and Olivo added a RBI single of his own. Holder and pinch hitter Junior Matt Ritter added RBI singles to increase the Patriot lead to 12-0.
UTSA scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth, on a two RBI double down the right field line by Michael McKennon and a sacrifice fly by Lee Todesco. The Roadrunners added one more run in the ninth inning, leaving the final score 12-4.
The Patriots resume action on Tuesday afternoon when they travel to Lubbock to take on the Red Raiders from Texas Tech at 3:00.
