Patriots Use Six Homeruns to Defeat Northeastern 19-8

Dallas Baptist defeated Northeastern by the score of 19-8 on Thursday night at Patriot Field, improving to 13-10 on the season, while Northeastern fell to 4-6. The Patriot offense used six homeruns to defeat the Huskies and were lead at the plate by Junior Drew Holder and Israel Victor, who each had two homeruns and Freshman Austin Krum, who went 4-6 with a homerun and four RBI.

The Huskies got on the board in the first inning on a lead off homerun, taking an early 1-0 lead.

DBU responded in the second inning, after Sophomore Daniel Magness walked to start the game and advanced to second on a wild pitch. He moved to third on a fly out by Senior Sean Burgess and scored on another wild pitch, tying the game at 1-1.

The Patriots added three runs on two homeruns in the bottom of the third. Krum hit a solo homerun to lead off the inning and Victor walked, setting up Holder's two run homerun over the right-center field wall, giving DBU the 4-1 lead.

DBU used two more homeruns in the fourth inning to increase their lead to 8-1. Junior Brad Boles hit a two-run homerun, scoring Junior Garrett Baker and Victor followed with a two-run homerun of his own, scoring Krum.

The Patriots added another run in the fifth inning, after Baker doubled to lead off the inning and scored on a RBI single by Krum, increasing the lead to 9-1.

Northeastern scored one run in the sixth and five runs in the seventh on two homeruns off of DBU starter Junior Stuart Sutherland, making the score 9-7.

DBU scored ten runs with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning, after Victor reached on an error and moved to third on a single by Magness. Junior Matt Tucker followed with a RBI single and Junior TJ Drotleff added a two RBI single. Krum hit a two RBI single and Junior Cody Montgomery added another RBI single. Victor hit his second homerun of the day, scoring three runs and Holder followed with a homerun of his, increasing the lead to 19-7.

The Huskies managed to score one run in the top of the ninth, leaving the final score 19-8.

Sutherland picked up the win, improving to 2-2 on the year, while pitching seven innings, allowing seven runs, four earned and striking out three.

The Patriots resume action on Friday afternoon in doubleheader action beginning at 4:00 against Northeastern University and against Prairie View A&M at 7:00.
