Patriots Increase Current Win Streak to Six Games

The DBU Patriot baseball team defeated Prairie View A&M by the score of 20-8 on Friday night at Patriot Field and increased their current winning streak to six games and overall season record to 15-10.

Leading the Patriots at the plate was Junior Damian Gomez, who went 5-5 with five RBI and Junior Drew Holder, who went 4-6 with four RBI.

Prairie View scored one run in the top of the first inning on a solo homerun by Marcus Crockett, giving the Panthers an early 1-0 lead.

DBU responded with one run in the bottom in the first and tied the game on a RBI single by Holder, scoring Junior Cody Montgomery, who reached first after being hit by a pitch.

The Patriots took the lead in the second inning, after Senior Sean Burgess reached first after being beaned and scored after Junior Garrett Baker reached base and advanced to third on an error. Gomez followed with a RBI single, scoring Baker, giving a 3-1 lead.

Dallas Baptist scored nine runs in the fifth inning. Junior Israel Victor reached on an error to start the inning and advanced to third on a double by Holder. Magness reached on a RBI fielder's choice and Junior Matt Tucker reached on an error. Burgess followed with a RBI sacrifice fly and Baker singled to set up Gomez second RBI single of the game. Montgomery reached on another Panther error and Freshman Austin Krum scored on a wild pitch scoring two more runs. Holder followed with a two-run homerun, making the score 12-1.

Prairie View scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning all unearned on a Patriot error, leaving the score 12-4.

The Patriots added two runs of their own in the sixth inning, after Baker reached on an error and scored on a two-run homerun by Gomez, increasing the lead to 14-4.

The Panthers scored three more runs in the top of the seventh inning on two hits, two RBI sacrifice flies and a Patriot error, closing in on the Patriot lead 14-7.

DBU scored five more runs in the seventh, on RBI singles by Baker and Gomez and a two RBI double by Krum, who later scored on a wild pitch, leaving the score 20-7.

Prairie View pushed across one more run in the top of the ninth, making the final score 20-8.

DBU resumes play on Saturday afternoon at Patriot Field beginning at 4:00.
