Montgomery Leads DBU to 12-11 Victory

Dallas Baptist University defeated Northeastern University with three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning by the score of 12-11. The Patriots improved to 14-10 on the season, while Northeastern fell to 4-8. Junior Cody Montgomery lead DBU at the plate, going 4 for 6 with four RBI including the winning hit in the bottom of the ninth.

The Patriots got on the board in the first inning, after Junior Israel Victor reached on an infield single, setting up Junior Drew Holder's two run homerun. The homerun was Holder's third in two days and gave DBU an early 2-0.

Northeastern tied the game in the top of the third inning on a two-run homerun by Chris Emanuele, leaving the score 2-2.

DBU added two more runs in the fifth inning. Sophomore Daniel Magness hit a two RBI double and Junior Jeremy Goldschmeding added a RBI groundout, giving DBU again 5-2.

The Huskies responded with five runs in the top of the sixth inning, on five hits and a grand slam, taking their first lead of the game 7-5.

The Patriots tied the game again in the sixth, after Junior Brad Boles singled to start the inning and advanced to third on a throwing error. Boles scored on a wild pitch and Montgomery followed with a RBI double, tying the game at 7-7.

Northeastern pushed across three more runs in the seventh and one in the eighth to retake the lead 11-7.

Dallas Baptist managed to score two runs in the eighth inning, on a RBI triple by Krum and Montgomery reached on a error, scoring Krum, closing the Husky lead to 11-9.

DBU loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth with no outs and scored one run on a RBI fielder's choice by Krum. Montgomery followed with a two RBI double down the left field line, scoring the winning run and giving the Patriots a 12-11 win.

The Patriots resume action on Saturday afternoon at 4:00 against Prairie View A&M at Patriot Field.
