Dallas Baptist University defeated Prairie View A&M by the score of 12-1 at Patriot Field on Saturday afternoon. With the victory DBU improved to 16-10 and increased their current win streak to seven games, while the Panthers fell to 18-16.
Leading the Patriots at the plate was Sophomore Daniel Magness, who had four RBI and Junior Damian Gomez and Freshman Austin Krum, who each had three RBI.
Dallas Baptist scored first, pushing across three runs in the bottom of the second. Sophomore Daniel Magness reached on a walk and Sophomore Jimmy Thoma singled. Both runners advanced on a passed ball and Magness scored on a sacrifice fly by Junior Garrett Baker. Junior Damian Gomez reached on an error and Freshman Austin Krum followed with two RBI triple, giving DBU an early 3-0 lead.
Prairie View scored their only run in the third inning, closing the score to 3-1.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, DBU scored three more runs. Junior Cody Montgomery singled to start the inning and Juniors Israel Victor and Drew Holder both walked, setting up a two RBI double by Magness. Junior Jeremy Goldschmeding followed with a sacrifice fly, scoring Holder and Baker added a single. Gomez followed with a three-run homerun over the left-center field fence, his second of the year, making the score 9-1.
Gomez doubled to lead off the sixth and scored on a RBI single by Krum. Junior TJ Drotleff followed with a single of his own and Magness added his second two RBI single of the day, pushing the DBU lead to 12-1.
Sophomore Brice Wells picked up the win and improved to 1-1 on the season, pitching five innings, scattering five hits and striking out three.
The Patriots resume action this weekend when they travel to Oregon State for a three-game series in Corvallis, Oregon, beginning on Thursday afternoon at 4:00.
