Oregon State Uses Big Fourth Inning to Defeat DBU 7-2

Oregon State responded to their worst loss of the season on Thursday night with a 7-2 victory on Friday afternoon in game one of the doubleheader against Dallas Baptist in Corvallis, Oregon. The Patriots fall to 17-11 on the season, while the 18th ranked Beavers improve to 18-4.

Oregon State starting pitcher Dallas Buck, who was named a Pre-Season All-American by Baseball America, no hit the Patriots for four and two-third innings and picked up the win, improving to 5-0 on the season. Buck pitched a complete game, allowing two unearned runs, scattering four hits and striking out 12, a career high.

The Beavers struck in the bottom of the fourth inning. DBU starter Sophomore Rodney Brantley had held OSU hitless through three innings, but the Beavers used two walks and two hits to take a 1-0 lead and chase Brantley from the game. Sophomore Brice Wells came in for relief and walked the first batter, walking a run in and allowed a grand slam, increasing the Beaver lead to 6-0.

DBU managed to score one run in the fifth inning, after Junior Garrett Baker reached first after being hit by a pitch and moved to second on a wild pick off attempt by Buck. Junior Brad Boles followed with a RBI single, the first hit of the game for the Patriots, making the score 6-1.

In the eighth inning, the Patriots added another run, after Baker reached base on an error and scored on a RBI single by Freshman Austin Krum, closing the Beaver lead to 6-2.

OSU added a solo homerun in the bottom of the eighth inning, increasing their lead to 7-2.

The Patriots will play Oregon State in the third and final game of the series on Friday evening at approximately 4:00. This game was originally scheduled for Saturday afternoon, but due to inclement weather that is expected in the Corvallis area on Saturday the game was moved to Friday.
