Dallas Baptist University fell to 17-12 on the season, while the 18 ranked Oregon State Beavers improved to 19-4 on the season with a 11-3 victory on Friday afternoon in the second game of the doubleheader in Corvallis, Oregon. The Beavers won the weekend series by winning the second and third games of the series, after DBU took game one, 17-7.
OSU scored four runs in the first inning, on five hits including a lead off double and three RBI singles and a wild pitch, giving the Beavers an early 4-0 lead.
The Beavers added to their lead in the second inning, after they scored three more runs, increasing their lead and chasing DBU starter Sophomore Tyler Rowland from the mound. Rowland, who only lasted one and two-third innings, allowed six runs on eight hits and was stuck with the loss falling to 1-1 on the season. Patriot reliever Junior Jereme Wilson walked the first batter he faced and allowed another RBI single, pushing the Beaver lead to 7-0.
DBU responded in the third inning. Freshman Austin Krum single on a base hit bunt and Sophomore Jimmy Thoma reached on an error. Junior Drew Holder followed with an opposite field three-run homerun, closing the OSU lead to 7-3.
Oregon State added to their lead in the sixth inning, by scoring one run, but the Beavers did leave the bases loaded, only increasing their lead to 8-3.
The Beavers scored two more runs in the seventh inning, on two Patriot errors and one more run in the eighth, leaving the score 11-3.
The Patriots resume action when they travel to Norman, Oklahoma to take on the Oklahoma Sooners on Tuesday evening at 7:00.
