The Patriots defeated Texas A&M Corpus Christi by the score of 1-0 in game one of the doubleheader on Friday afternoon, but lost the second game 6-5.
Each game was only scheduled for seven innings because of the doubleheader, but DBU scored the winning run in game one in the bottom of the ninth inning on a RBI by Junior Jeremy Goldschmeding.
Sophomore Ricky Sparks pitched seven inning of shutout baseball in his first start of the season. Freshman TJ Drake picked up his first collegiate win and Junior Stuart Sutherland got the save, his third of the season.
The Patriots did not have such good luck in game two. The Islanders, down 5-2 going into the bottom of the seventh inning, scored four runs in a comeback effort, winning the game 6-5.
DBU's current overall record is now 19-14, while Corpus Christi is now 20-16-1.
The two teams will square off again tomorrow afternoon beginning at 1:00 for the third and final game of the series.
