Patriots Fall to 22-19

The Dallas Baptist University Patriot baseball team was defeated on Monday afternoon by the score of 12-10 at Patriot Field by the Islanders from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The loss drops DBU to 22-19 on the season and only their second loss at home this year.

Leading the Patriots at the plate was Junior Ryan Olivo, who was 2 for 3 with four RBI and Junior Drew Holder, who went 3 for 4 with three RBI.

DBU fell behind early, giving up two homeruns in the first inning giving the Islanders an early 3-0 lead.

The Patriots responded in the bottom half of the inning, after Junior Cody Montgomery tripled to lead off the game and scored on a RBI sacrifice fly by Olivo, making the score 3-1.

Corpus Christi scored three more runs in the second inning, on a three-run homerun, chasing DBU starter Freshman Jonathan Teat from the game and increasing their lead to 6-1. Teat was stuck with the loss and falls to 0-2 on the season.

DBU added three more runs in the second inning, after Freshman Austin Krum and Junior Matt Tucker walked, which set up a three run homerun by Olivo, making the score 6-4.

Corpus Christi managed solo homeruns in the third, fourth and fifth innings to add to their lead.

The Patriots scored one run in the fourth inning, after Junior Damian Gomez walked and advanced to third on a double by Olivo. Holder followed with a RBI single scoring Gomez.

DBU closed the Islander lead to 9-6 in the fifth inning, after the Patriots loaded the bases on three singles by Krum, Tucker and Gomez and Montgomery followed with a RBI sacrifice fly scoring Krum.


Holder lead off the sixth inning with a solo homerun, shrinking the Corpus Christi lead to 9-7.

The Islanders responded in the seventh inning on another solo homerun, increasing their lead to 10-7.

The Patriots scored two runs in the bottom half of the seventh inning, after Tucker and Gomez each singled and Montgomery followed with a RBI double. Olivo walked and Holder added a RBI sacrifice fly, scoring Gomez, closing the score to 10-9.

Corpus Christi pushed across two more runs in the eighth inning, leaving the score 12-9.

Junior Garrett Baker walked to lead off the eighth inning for DBU and Tucker followed with a RBI triple, making the score 12-10.

The Patriots resume action on Tuesday evening when they travel to Stillwater, Oklahoma to take on Oklahoma State University beginning at 6:00.
