Dallas Baptist University defeated Texas Wesleyan by the score of 15-0 on Saturday afternoon at Patriot Field. With the victory, the Patriots improve to 24-20 on the season, while Texas Wesleyan falls to 32-19.
Sophomore Brice Wells picked up the win, improving to 3-2 on the season and leading DBU at the plate was Junior Cody Montgomery, who went 5 for 6 with two RBI, three runs scored and a homerun.
DBU got on the board in the bottom of the first inning, after Montgomery lead off the game with a solo homerun over the right field fence, his sixth of the year and third in two days. Junior Drew Holder drew a walk and advanced to third on two wild pitches. Sophomore Daniel Magness also walked and Junior Israel Victor followed with a RBI sacrifice fly scoring Holder, giving DBU an early 2-0 lead.
The Patriots added to their lead in the fourth inning, after Magness singled to start the inning and advanced to third on a dropped fly ball by the Rams off Junior Israel Victor's bat. Junior Garrett Baker followed with a RBI double and Freshman Austin Krum added a RBI groundout to score Victor. Baker later scored on a wild pitch pushing the lead to 5-0.
DBU added another run in the fifth inning, after Montgomery singled to start the inning and Magness and Victor drew walks to load the bases. Montgomery scored on a RBI walk by Baker, increasing the score to 6-0.
Krum lead off the sixth with a walk and advanced to third on double by Junior Matt Tucker. Senior Sean Burgess added a RBI sacrifice fly and Montgomery had a RBI single, scoring Tucker. Senior Ryan Olivo singled, Holder drew a walk and Magness also walked forcing in Montgomery. Victor hit a single scoring two runs and Junior Matt Ritter added a single. Junior TJ Drotleff added a RBI, after reaching on a fielder's choice pushing the score to 12-0.
In the seventh inning, the Patriots scored three more runs on a three-run homerun by Senior Nate Thompson, his first of the season, scoring Burgess, who doubled and Montgomery, who singled to start the inning, which made the score 15-0.
The Patriots resume action on Thursday afternoon beginning at 7:00 when they host University of Texas-Pan Am at Patriot Field.
