The DBU Patriot baseball team defeated UT-Pan Am by the score of 13-3 on Thursday evening at Patriot Field scoring 13 runs on 19 hits and four homeruns. The Patriots improved to 25-20 on the season and the Broncs fall to 14-34.
Junior Jereme Wilson notched the win, improving to 4-0 on the season, pitching six shutout innings, allowing eight hits and striking out four.
Leading the Patriots at the plate was Freshman Austin Krum, who finished the night going 4 for 5 with two RBI and two runs scored and Sophomore Daniel Magness, who went 4 for 5 with two RBI, three runs scored and two homeruns.
DBU struck first, scoring two runs in the first inning. Junior Drew Holder reached on an error and advanced to second on a single by Sophomore Daniel Magness. Both runners scored on a double by Junior Israel Victor, who was thrown out trying to leg out a triple, giving DBU an early 2-0 lead.
The Patriots scored again in the second inning, after Junior Jeremy Goldschmeding singled and Krum doubled to start the inning. Junior Matt Tucker followed with a sacrifice fly to score Goldschmeding and Sophomore Austin Thornton added a single to score Krum. Junior Ryan Olivo singled and Holder added a RBI single, increasing the Patriot lead to 5-0.
Magness lead off the third inning with a solo homerun and Krum followed with a single. Tucker reached on an error and Thornton added another RBI single, scoring Krum, making the score 7-0 after four innings.
Magness hit his second homerun of the game and his fourth of the season, making the score 8-0.
Krum and Tucker lead off the fifth inning with doubles and Montgomery and Holder each singled to push the DBU lead to 10-0.
DBU scored two more runs in the sixth inning. Victor singled to start the inning and Krum followed with a two-run blast over the center field wall, leaving the score 12-0.
UT-Pan Am finally managed to score, pushing three runs across in the seventh inning, making the score 12-3.
Pinch hitter Sophomore Jimmy Thoma added a solo homerun in the bottom of the eighth to push the DBU lead to 13-3.
DBU resumes action on Friday night at 6:00 when they host UT-Pan Am again at Patriot Field for the second game of the three game series.
