The DBU Patriot baseball team overcame an early 2-0 deficit to defeat UT-Pan Am on Friday evening by the score of 15-2 at Patriot Field. The Patriots improve to 26-20 on the season, while the Broncs fall to 14-35. The DBU offense remained hot, scoring 15 runs on 21 hits and will go for the sweep tomorrow in game three of the series beginning at noon.
Sophomore Randall Taylor notched the win, improving to 7-5 on the year, pitching six innings, allowing only two runs and striking out four.
Leading the Patriots at the plate was Junior Brad Boles, who went 3 for 4 with two RBI and a homerun and Senior Ryan Olivo, who went 3 for 4 with an RBI and two doubles.
Pan Am did not waste any time to get on the board, scoring two runs in the top of the first, taking an early 2-0 lead.
DBU responded in the third inning, after they loading the bases on three singles to start the inning by Boles and Junior Cody Montgomery and Olivo. Magness followed with a two RBI double off the right field wall to tie the score at 2-2.
The Patriots added two more runs in the fourth inning after Freshman Austin Krum singled to lead off the inning and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Matt Tucker. Boles followed with another singled and Montgomery executed another sacrifice bunt to score Krum and advance Tucker to second. Olivo followed with a RBI double, pushing the lead to 4-2.
Junior Jeremy Goldschmeding hit a two out solo homerun in the fifth inning to increase the score to 5-2, his third of the season.
The Patriots scored seven more runs in the sixth. Tucker singled to lead off the sixth and Boles followed with a two-run homerun, his second of the season. Montgomery followed with a solo homerun, for back to back homeruns, which was his seventh of the season. Olivo doubled again down the right field line and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Sophomore Daniel Magness. Junior Israel Victor, Goldschmeding and Krum all singled to load the bases for Tucker, who hit a three RBI double to clear the bases, to make the score 12-2.
DBU scored another run in the seventh, after Junior TJ Drotleff walked and Senior Sean Burgess singled to set up Sophomore Jimmy Thoma's sacrifice fly to score Drotleff. Junior Garrett Baker walked and Junior Matt Ritter singled. Burgess scored on a wild pitch and Krum singled to score another run, leaving the score 15-2.
DBU resumes action on Saturday afternoon beginning at 12:00 for game three action against UT-Pan Am at Patriot Field where the Patriots will go for the series sweep.
