DBU Comeback to Defeat Cowboys

The DBU Patriots defeated McNeese State on Wednesday afternoon in the second and final game of the two game series by the score of 16-8 at Patriot Field. The Patriots overcame a 7-0 deficit, before scoring 16 unanswered runs for the victory.

DBU won game one on Tuesday night by the score of 9-8 and with the victory improve to 21-15 on the season and 9-0 against Southland Conference teams, while McNeese falls to 13-22.

Leading DBU at the plate was Sophomore Daniel Magness, who had five RBI and Junior Matt Tucker, who had added four RBI.

McNeese scored first, pushing across one run in the top of the first inning on three hits, taking an early 1-0 lead.

The Cowboys added to their lead in the third inning on two hits and a balk and make the score 2-0.

McNeese struck again in the fifth inning, scoring five runs on four hits and one Patriot error increasing their lead to 7-0.

DBU got on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning, after Junior Cody Montgomery doubled to start the inning and advanced to third on a single by Junior Jeremy Goldschmeding. Junior Sean Burgess followed with a RBI single and Magness added a RBI sacrifice fly scoring Goldschmeding, leaving the score 7-2.

The Patriots began their comeback in the sixth, after Junior Israel Victor doubled to start the inning and Junior Brad Boles followed with a single. Victor scored on a fielder's choice by Montgomery and Goldschmeding reached on a fielder's choice of his own. Burgess drew a walk, which set up a three-run homerun by Magness, making the score 7-6.

DBU completed their comeback in the seventh inning, after Tucker singled and Boles drew a walk, setting up Montgomery's two RBI double, giving DBU the 8-7 lead.

The Patriots added three more runs in the eighth inning, after Burgess singled to start the inning and Magness drew a walk. Senior Ryan Olivo singled on an infield hit and Junior TJ Drotleff drew another walk, scoring Burgess. Tucker followed with a grand slam homerun, his first homerun of the season. Victor added a solo homerun for back to back homeruns and Boles walked. Goldschmeding singled and Burgess followed with a RBI single scoring Boles. Magness added another RBI single, increasing the DBU lead to 16-7.

McNeese scored one run in the ninth, leaving the final score 16-8.

The Patriots resume action next Tuesday when they travel to Huntsville, Texas to take on Sam Houston State University beginning at 6:00.
