Patriots Offense Remains Hot

Dallas Baptist University defeated Texas Wesleyan by the score of 15-4 on Monday evening at Patriot Field. The Patriots bats remained hot, scoring 15 runs on 15 hits and currently are on a six game winning streak, improving to 28-20 on the season.

Leading DBU at the plate was Sophomore Daniel Magness, who went 4 for 4 with three RBI and three runs scored.

Freshman Jonathan Teat picked up the win, his first of the his collegiate career, improving to 1-2 on the season, pitching five innings, allowing four runs only two earned in the victory.


Texas Wesleyan took an early lead, scoring one run in the top of the first inning, but DBU responded with five runs of their own. Freshman Austin Krum singled to start the game and Junior Cody Montgomery was hit by a pitch. Sophomore Daniel Magness doubled to score one run and Junior Sean Burgess reached on an error scoring two more runs. Junior Jeremy Goldschmeding followed with a two-run homerun over the left field fence, making the score 5-1.

The Rams scored another run in the second, but once again the Patriots scored in the bottom half of the inning. Junior Damian Gomez doubled and scored on a RBI triple by Krum. Magness singled, Burgess walked and Goldschmeding singled loading the bases for Junior Garrett Baker, who was hit by a pitch, pushing in a run. Tucker drew a walk, scoring another run increasing the lead to 9-2.

In the third inning, Senior Ryan Olivo walked and Montgomery, Magness and Burgess all singled. Goldschmeding added a RBI groundout, pushing the score to 11-2.

Texas Wesleyan scored two runs in the fourth, closing in on the Patriot lead 11-4.

DBU scored three runs in the fifth, after Olivo and Montgomery singled to start the inning and scored on a double by Magness. Magness later scored after Junior TJ Drotleff reached on an error, leaving the score 14-4.

The Patriots added another run in the sixth. Gomez doubled and moved to second on a fly out by Krum and scored on a sacrifice fly by Olivo, increasing the score to 15-4.

The Patriots resume action on Tuesday night when they travel to San Marcos to take on Texas State beginning at 6:30.
