DBU Improves to 32-21

Dallas Baptist University defeated Abilene Christian by the score of 13-10 on Monday evening at Patriot Field, improving to 32-21 on the season and dropping the Wildcats to 41-15.

Picking up the win was Senior Barrett Pliler, who improves to 4-2 on the season, after pitching five innings, allowing five runs on five hits.

For ACU, Ben Brockman was stuck with the loss, falling to 10-2 on the season.

Leading DBU at the plate was Junior Cody Montgomery, who went 2 for 3 with three RBI, increasing his hitting streak to 18 games and Senior Ryan Olivo, who went 2 for 3 with two RBI, increasing his hitting streak to 13 games.

The Patriots did not waste any time to get on the board, putting up three runs in the first inning. Junior Cody Montgomery tripled to start the inning and scored on a RBI single by Senior Ryan Olivo. Junior Drew Holder followed with a two-run homerun over the left field fence, giving DBU an early 3-0 lead.

DBU scored three more runs in the second inning, after Freshman Austin Krum walked to lead off the inning and Junior Matt Tucker reached on an error. Junior Damian Gomez doubled to score Krum and Montgomery added a sacrifice fly to the warning track to score two more runs, making the score 6-0.

ACU scored one run in the third on a solo homerun by Cody Cure.

The Patriots scored another run in the third inning. Magness walked and advanced to third on a double by Junior Jeremy Goldschmeding. Tucker followed with a RBI single, but Goldschmeding was thrown out at the plate to leave the score 7-1.

Dallas Baptist added two more runs in the fourth, after Gomez singled to start the inning and Montgomery was hit by a pitch to set up a two RBI single by Holder pushing the score 9-1.

The Wildcats scored four runs in the fifth, on a RBI single and a three-run homerun, making the score 9-5.

DBU responded with four runs in the sixth inning. Burgess tripled to start the inning and scored on a RBI single by Krum. Tucker followed with a RBI double and Gomez walked to set up a RBI double by Montgomery. Olivo added a RBI sacrifice fly to score Gomez, increasing the lead to 13-5.

ACU scored five runs in the seventh inning on three hits and two walks, using another three-run homerun to close the Patriot lead to 13-10.

DBU resumes action on Saturday afternoon in doubleheader action beginning at 1:00 when they travel to Austin to take on the Longhorns from the University of Texas.
