Lady Patriots Pull the Upset to Win Eighth Straight

The Lady Patriot Volleyball Team from Dallas Baptist University won their eighth straight match tonight when they defeated regionally ranked Texas Woman's University in five games.  The Patriots improve to 13-14 on the season, while TWU fell to 19-10.

DBU started off the match with a tough loss in game one 30-27, but like the last seven matches the Patriots did not buckle and came back to win game two, 30-13.  Both teams split the next two games setting up the deciding game five.

The Lady Patriots jumped out to an early 3-0 lead but watched the lead collapse after three unforced errors.  DBU however has matured every match this year and knows now they can win any game they are competing in.  With this attitude the Patriots scored three straight points and never looked back, finishing off TWU, 15-12.

The Patriots were led by Seniors Jenna Pry, Brandi Moss, and Lauren Ashlock and Freshman Vickie Mundell, who was recently named Heartland Conference Player of the Week.  Pry had another huge night with 28 kills and 23 digs, while Moss contributed 18 kills and Ashlock added 12 of her own.  Mundell broke her season high tonight with 42 assist.

DBU continues to play strong defense which has been a large part of their success of late.  This would not have been possible without the Senior leadership of Ashlee Hawkins in the back row and play from Freshman Amanda Emmert.  Hawkins added 24 more digs to her team high, while Emmert dug 21 of her own.

The Patriots will travel to San Antonio, Texas, this weekend to play two Heartland Conference Matches and look for wins nine and ten in a row.  The first match will be against the University of Incarnate Word on Friday, at 7:00 and then match two will be Saturday, at 12:00, against St. Mary's University.
