Late Goal Wins Seventh Game for Lady Patriots

DBU's Women's Soccer Team pulled off a tough fought victory against Texas Woman's University on Tuesday Night.  The Lady Patriots won the game 2-1, to improve to 7-4, while TWU fell to 4-8-2 on the year.

DBU took control of the game early when Sophomore Amanda Ferguson crossed a pass to Senior Angelica Sandoval, who scored her 7th goal of the year and gave the Lady Patriots a early 1-0 lead.

After the early goal, both teams picked up their defense and with some great saves from both goalies the scored remained 1-0 until late in the second half.

TWU attacked often in the second half, out shooting the Patriots 14-8 on the night.  The Lady Pioneers were finally able to sneak one of the shots pass Freshman goalie Emily Evans in the 85th minute to tie the game, making the score 1-1.

As the game looked like it was going into overtime, DBU was awarded a free kick from midfield and took full advantage of the opportunity.  Junior Courtney Schneidau took the kick and perfectly placed a ball over the defenders head.  Freshman Khrystal Richmond came out of the crowd and headed in the game winning goal with 32 seconds left on the clock.

The Lady Patriots look to build off the huge win, when they travel to Laredo, TX, on Saturday, October 7, to take on Texas A&M International at 1:00.
