DBU Improves to 5-2

The DBU Patriots defeated Stephen F. Austin by the score of 7-4 on Tuesday evening at Patriot Field. DBU improves to 5-2 on the season and SFA falls to 2-9.

Junior Rodney Brantley picked up the win for DBU, pitching six innings, allowing zero runs on one hit, while striking out four.

Leading the Patriots at the plate was Sophomore Austin Krum, who went three for four on the day, with two runs scored and one RBI.

The Patriots did not waste any time getting on the board, managing one run on one hit in the first inning, after leadoff hitter Krum singled and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Senior Drew Holder.

DBU struck again in the third inning, after Krum started the inning with a bunt base hit and scored on a RBI double by Senior Cody Montgomery. Montgomery scored later in the inning on a RBI groundout by Holder, making the score 3-0.

In the sixth inning, Junior Matt Tucker homered to lead off the inning and Junior Ross Olson singled. Senior Israel Victor reached on a Lumberjack error and Freshman Brandon Bantz was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Krum hit a sacrifice fly to score one run, leaving the score 5-0.

Holder singled in the seventh inning, stole second and scored on a RBI single by pinch hitter Freshman Evan Bigley, pushing the Patriot Lead to 6-0. SFA finally got on the board in the eighth inning to make the score 6-1.

Senior Brad Boles tripled to start the eighth inning and scored on a sacrifice fly by Montgomery, making the score 7-1.

The Lumberjacks scored three runs in the ninth inning, to leave the final score 7-4.

The Patriots resume action on Thursday afternoon when they travel to Midland to take on Texas Tech at 5:00 in the Midland Rockhounds Tournament.
