Brantley No-Hits UT-Arlington

Dallas Baptist University starting pitcher Junior Rodney Brantley needed only 98 pitches to toss a no hitter in defeating UT-Arlington 9-1 Saturday afternoon at the Midland Collegiate Classic, held at Citibank Ballpark in Midland, Texas.

Brantley (3-0) allowed one unearned run and struck out seven hitters and only walked one. He induced 19 ground ball outs and only one fly ball out.

The Patriots (7-3) struck in the first inning as Cody Montgomery hit a one-out solo shot over the right center field wall.

UTA scored their only run in the third inning on consecutive errors by the Patriot defense to tie the score at 1-1.

In the fourth, the Patriots retook the lead.  Senior Jeremy Goldschmeding singled to right and stole second before scoring on Senior Drew Holder's triple . Junior Matt Tucker drove in Holder with a single and Freshman Evan Bigley followed with a solo homerun.  Senior Israel Victor drew a walk and advanced to third on Senior Brad Boles's single. Both runners scored on an Austin Krum double, giving DBU the 6-1 lead.

DBU scored three more runs in the seventh inning, after Holder singled up the middle and later scored on a RBI double by Tucker.  Pinch-hitter Senior Damian Gomez  followed with a RBI single and Bigley blooped an RBI double down the right-field line, making the score 9-1.

The Patriots resume action on Tuesday evening at 7:00 when they travel to Fort Worth to take on TCU.
