On Tuesday night the DBU Patriots defeated the TCU Horned Frogs, who are ranked 21st in the nation, by the score of 11-8 at Lupton Stadium in Fort Worth, Texas. With the win the Patriots improve to 8-3 on the season, while TCU falls to 6-5.
Senior Stuart Sutherland picked up the win, evening his record to 1-1 on the season. Leading the Patriots at the plate was Senior Damian Gomez, who finished the night going two for three with three RBI.
DBU got on the board in the first inning. Senior Drew Holder had a sacrifice fly and Gomez added a two RBI double to give DBU and early 3-0 lead.
The Frogs responded with one run in each the first and second innings, leaving the score 3-2.
In the third inning, the Patriots added two more runs on RBI singles by Gomez and Senior Israel Victor. Once again TCU scored on run in the third making the score 5-3.
DBU scored another run in the fourth, after Gomez reached on an error, scoring Holder, putting the score at 6-3.
TCU scored three runs in the fifth inning, on two walks, to hit batsmen and a two RBI single, tying the game at 6-6.
The Patriots added five runs in the seventh inning to regain the lead, on three hits. Gomez and Freshman Evan Bigley walked to start the inning and Victor had a bunt base hit to load the bases. Sophomore Austin Krum had a RBI single and Senior Cody Montgomery drew a bases loaded walk for another run. Senior Jeremy Goldschmeding followed with a bases clearing double to left center to push the score to 11-6.
TCU added two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning on a two-run pinch hit homerun, but were unable to score anymore leaving the final score 11-8.
The Patriots resume action on Thursday afternoon at 6:00 when they host UT-San Antonio at Patriot Field.
