The DBU Patriot baseball team defeated the Lumberjacks from Stephen F. Austin on Tuesday afternoon by the score of 15-5 in Nacogdoches, Texas.
Starting pitcher Randall Taylor picked up the win for the Patriots, improving to 2-1 on the season, after pitching five shutout inning, allowing just one hit and striking out 10 batters.
The Patriot offense was lead by Freshman Evan Bigley, who went 2 for 4 with six RBI and two homeruns. In the win, DBU drew 12 walks and were beaned three times and despite scoring 15 runs, still left 13 men on base.
In the first inning, Sophomore Austin Krum singled to start the inning and later scored on a RBI sacrifice fly by Bigley. The Patriots scored another run in the second inning, leaving the score 2-0.
DBU scored four more runs in the third inning. Junior Ross Olson had a two RBI double and Krum added a RBI sacrifice fly, to push the score to 6-0.
In the fifth, the Patriots added five more runs. Senior Israel Victor doubled to lead off the inning and Senior Jeremy Goldschmeding followed with a RBI double. Bigley hit a three-run homerun, his first of the game to increase the Patriot lead to 11-0.
The Lumberjacks scored five runs on four hits in the bottom of the eighth off of Junior Tyler Rowland to close the score to 11-5.
The Patriots scored four more runs in the ninth, after Senior Cody Montgomery walked and Goldschmeding singled. Holder followed with a RBI single and Bigley added his second homerun of the game to push the final score to 15-5.
DBU will resume action on Wednesday afternoon beginning at 6:00 against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at Patriot Field.
