DBU Offense Blasts TAMU-CC

DBU defeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi by the score of 23-5 on Wednesday evening at Patriot Field.  With the victory the Patriots improve to 14-8 on the season, while the Islanders fall to 9-12.

Junior Rodney Brantley pitched seven innings, allowing three runs, two earned on five hits, while striking out 11 batters.   

In the bottom of the first, the Patriots scored one run on two hits, after Sophomore Austin Krum singled to start the inning and later scored on a RBI double by Senior Jeremy Goldschmeding.

The Islanders scored two runs in the top of the second inning on three hits, one of which was a leadoff solo homerun over the right field wall, taking a 2-1 lead.

DBU responded in the bottom of the third, scoring eight runs on four hits.  Krum drew a walk and Senior Cody Montgomery doubled to score Krum.  Goldschmeding reached on an error and Senior Drew Holder followed with a two RBI triple.  Freshman Evan Bigley added a RBI double, Junior Matt Tucker walked, Junior Jimmy Thoma reached on an error and Freshman Brandon Bantz hit his fourth homerun of the season, making the score 9-2.

The Patriots picked up where they left off, scoring four more runs in the fourth inning.  Montgomery drew a four pitch walk to start the inning and Goldschmeding hit a RBI double and Holder followed with a three run homerun over the left field wall.  Bigley and Tucker followed with singles and Bigley later scored on RBI groundout by Thoma, pushing the score to 13-2.

The Islanders scored an unearned run in the top of the fifth inning to leave the score 13-3.  

DBU added five runs in the fifth inning, after Bantz walked and Krum followed with a two run homerun.  Montgomery drew another walk and Goldschmeding added another RBI double.  Bigley had a RBI single and Thoma added a RBI double to push the score to 18-3.

Thoma added a two homerun in the seventh inning to increase the Patriot score to 20-3.  

The Islanders managed to score two runs in the top of the eighth, which were both unearned runs, off of Sophomore Chad Longacre, who ended up striking out the side.

In the ninth, the Patriots scored three more runs, after Thornton and Krum lead off the inning with back to back infield singles and later scored on a double by Montgomery.  Thoma later drew a bases loaded walk to score Montgomery, making the score 23-5.

The Patriots resume action on Thursday evening when they host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi for the second and final game of the series beginning at 6:00 at Patriot Field.
