Craft and Gilmore Lead Patriots Past LaSalle

The Dallas Baptist University Baseball team defeated LaSalle University on Friday afternoon in both games of the doubleheader at Patriot Field.  In game one, DBU won 12-2 and in the second game the Patriots defeated LaSalle by the score of 13-0.

Leading the Patriots at the plate on the day was Senior Drew Holder, who went 5 for 8 with 10 RBI.

Senior Jeff Gilmore picked up the win, improving to 2-3 on the season, pitching six innings, allowing two runs on six hits, while striking out six.  Sophomore Chad Longacre pitched the seventh inning, retiring the Explorers in order.

In the second game, Junior Jordan Craft pitched a complete game shutout scattering three hits and striking out seven, picking up the win and improving to 2-0 on the year.

In the first game, the Patriots struck first, scoring one run in the first inning after Sophomore Austin Krum singled to start the inning.  Krum stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error and later scored on a RBI sacrifice fly by Senior Jeremy Goldschmeding, taking an early 1-0 lead.

The Explorers scored two runs in the top of the fourth inning after Mike Dertouzos singled and score on a stand up triple by John Vincent, who later scored on a suicide squeeze by Kenny Elkind, taking a 2-1 lead.  

DBU scored three runs in the fifth inning, after Junior Matt Tucker singled to start the inning the later scored on a RBI single by Senior Israel Victor.  Krum reached on an error and both scored on a two RBI double by Senior Cody Montgomery, giving DBU the 4-2 lead.

The Patriots padded their lead in the sixth by scoring eight runs.  Senior Drew Holder led off the inning by being hit by a pitch and Freshman Evan Bigley singled.  Tucker drew a walk and Junior Jimmy Thoma was hit by a pitch, scoring Holder.  Victor drew a walk to force in another run and Montgomery followed with a two RBI single. Goldschmeding was hit by a pitch to reload the bases and Holder hit a bases clearing double.  Bigley added another RBI single, giving DBU a 12-2 lead.

In the second game, DBU scored five runs in the first inning, after Krum and Montgomery lead off the game with doubles.  Goldschmeding walked, Holder added a two RBI double and Tucker and Thoma followed with RBI singles, giving DBU an early 5-0 lead.  

The Patriots scored two more runs in the fourth inning.  Montgomery and Goldschmeding both drew walks and scored on a two RBI single by Holder to push the score to 7-0.    

In the fifth inning, DBU scored another run after Tucker tripled to start the inning and later scored on a RBI groundout by Victor, increasing the score to 8-0.

In the sixth inning, Goldschmeding singled to lead off the inning and Holder added a two-run homerun, his ninth of the season.   Bigley followed with a single and scored on a triple by Victor, pushing the score to 13-0.  

DBU added another run in the seventh, after Krum walked and later scored on a RBI single by Holder to make the score 12-0.

Tucker lead off the eighth with a solo homerun off of the scoreboard, his fifth of the season to increase the score to 13-0.  

DBU will resume action on Saturday afternoon beginning at 2:00 when they host LaSalle University again in doubleheader action at Patriot Field.
