DBU was defeated by the score of 8-2 on Thursday evening at Patriot Field, snapping their three game winning streak, while committing four errors and scoring only two runs, a season low. With the loss, the Patriots fall to 8-4 on the season, while the Roadrunners improve to 5-7.
In the first inning, Sophomore Austin Krum singled to start the inning and stole second and third base, which set up a RBI sacrifice fly by Senior Jeremy Goldschmeding, giving DBU an early 1-0 lead.
Krum helped the Patriots add to their lead in the third inning, after hitting his first homerun of the season, a solo shot over the right field wall.
UTSA responded with an unearned run in the fourth inning, on one hit and one error, leaving the score 2-1.
The Roadrunners hit a solo homerun of their own in the fifth, tying the score at 2-2.
The Patriots threatened in the sixth inning, after loading the bases, but were unable to push across any runs.
UT-San Antonio took the lead in the seventh inning, scoring three runs on four hits, making the score 5-2.
In the top of the eighth inning, the Roadrunners added two more runs on one hit and two Patriot errors. UT-SA added another solo homerun in the ninth, pushing the score to 8-2.
DBU resumes play on Friday afternoon at 6:00 when they play game two of the three game series against UT-Antonio at Patriot Field.
