Patriots Improve to 20-10

 

The Dallas Baptist University Patriot baseball team improved their season record to 20-10 on Friday night at Patriot Field, after defeating Northwestern State (14-14) by the score of 10-4.

Junior Randall Taylor picked up the win, improving to 3-1 on the season, pitching five and two third innings, allowing just two runs on six hits. 

The Patriots took an early lead, scoring one run in the top of the first inning, after Sophomore Austin Krum and Senior Cody Montgomery singled to lead off the inning.  Both runners advanced on an errant pick off attempt, setting up a RBI sacrifice fly by Senior Drew Holder.

In the second, Freshman Evan Bigley doubled to start the inning and scored on a RBI single by Junior Ross Olson, increasing the DBU lead to 2-0.

DBU added another run in the fourth inning.  Holder walk and moved to third on a RBI single by Bigley, which set up a RBI groundout by Senior Israel Victor, pushing the score to 3-0.

Senior Brad Boles lead off the fifth inning with a solo homerun, his first of the season, leaving the score 4-0.

The Demons scored one run in the top of the sixth on three hits and a walk, making the score 4-2. 

The Patriots countered in the bottom half of the inning, scoring six runs on three hits, but drew five walks.  Holder, Junior Matt Tucker and Olson all walked, which set up a two RBI double by Victor.  Boles followed with a RBI single and Krum and Montgomery both walk to set up Senior Jeremy Goldschmeding's two RBI single to push the score to 10-2. 

Northwestern State hit a two-run homerun in the top of the seventh inning to close the score to 10-4. 

The Patriots resume action on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 when they host Northwestern State for the second and final game of the series at Patriot Field.
