Patriots Break Three Game Losing Streak

On Tuesday afternoon the DBU Patriots defeated UNC Asheville by the score of 16-6 at Patriot Field.  With the win, the Patriots improve to 9-6 on the season, while the Bulldogs fall to 1-4.

Junior Jordan Craft picked up the win for DBU, improving to 1-0 on the season, pitching six innings, allowing five runs, two earned on six hits and striking out five.  

Leading DBU at the plate was Senior Drew Holder, who had five RBI and Senior Cody Montgomery, who went four for six with four runs scored and two RBI.  

The Patriots scored one run in the bottom of the first inning, after Montgomery singled and scored on a RBI double by Senior Jeremy Goldschmeding, taking an early 1-0 lead.

In the second, DBU scored two more runs, after Freshman Evan Bigley, hit a solo homerun, his fourth of the season.  Freshman Brandon Bantz followed with a single and scored on a RBI double by Sophomore Austin Krum, increasing the lead to 3-0.

The Bulldogs managed to score two runs in the top of the third, but the Patriots countered with a run of their own, on another solo homerun, this one by Junior Matt Tucker, leaving the score 4-2.  

In the sixth inning, DBU added five more runs.  Senior Israel Victor and Krum singled and Montgomery followed with a RBI double.  Goldschmeding added a RBI single and Holder hit a three run homerun, also his fourth of the season to make the score 9-2. 

UNC Asheville added three runs in the top of the seventh to push the score to 9-5.

DBU countered with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning.  Bantz reached on an error and Montgomery hit a RBI double.  Holder and Tucker walked to load the bases for Junior Ross Olson, who hit a two RBI double, pushing the score to 12-5.  

In the bottom of the eighth the Patriots added four more runs.  Victor and Bantz lead off the eighth inning with back to back homeruns and Montgomery followed with a single to right field.  Holder added his second homerun of the day, this one scoring two runs to make the score 16-6.  

The Patriots resume action tomorrow at 3:00 when they travel to Lake Charles, Louisiana to take on McNeese State University in doubleheader action.
